So I learned a few things. First that technically, there are three different categories of vegetarians (according to the Vegetarian Times):
1. Ovo-Lacto Vegetarians.
Likely the most popular choice among vegetarians. They do not eat any animal flesh but do use dairy products and eggs.
2. Lacto Vegetarians.
Do not eat any animal flesh or eggs but do use dairy products.
3.Vegans.
The most "complete" of all vegetarians. Do not eat animal products of any type, including animal flesh (red meat, chicken, pork, fish, or shellfish), dairy products, eggs or honey.
(from the Vegetarian Times, Vegetarian Beginner's Guide).
I however, currently do not fall into any of those categories. Instead I am at the pescetarian stage, meaning I am not eating any red meat, or poultry, only fish and other seafood. And so far... its not so bad.
But by the end of the week, once my fridge is emptied of all the tuna, scallops, and shrimp I made, I'll be making the transition to full veggie!!! The countdown begins.

Hey! It's Danielle, from class. (I'm the vegan girl haha). I just want to wish you the best of luck! As you know, this is something pretty meaningful to me and my life, and I realize that changing years of how you eat is not an easy endeavor. I really respect your experiment, and hopefully, you'll take what you've learned through this and maybe some of it will stick to your everyday life. I'm going to shoot you an email with all of the books that might help you and all of the websites that may be useful in your experiment and your research. If you want, before week four, I can go shopping with you to help you find yummy, affordable veg things. Also, as a Pitt student you have the privelege of receiving free nutritional advice. You may want to make an appointment through student health to talk to the nutritionist, just to be safe. It's important as a female to get calcium and iron and vitamin D, which may not be the easiest thing in the wintertime. (Lack of sunshine and veggies). If you need anything or have any questions, just let me know! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Andre 3000 is not only a vegetarian but a very strict vegan. :) Which goes to prove how you don't have to eat a dead animal to be damn sexy.
can you next post be "the last supper" por favor? kthanks!
